LEADING ON THE CREATIVE CASE FOR DIVERSITY

Birmingham Opera Company once again leads the debate on the creative case for diversity and social inclusion in opera.

Graham Vick wrote in The Stage: "In Birmingham, we have been experimenting for nearly 30 years with alternative ways of sharing great opera. During the past 16 years, we have involved tens of thousands of people as participants and audience, bringing a diversity and level of social inclusion seen in no other opera company (and I’ve worked in 67 of them) to challenging masterpieces by Musorgsky, Berg and Stockhausen."

NEW SUPPORT FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS

Birmingham Opera Company is a charity delivering massive personal and artistic impact. Supported in the main through national and local government funds, our work continues to be ever more ambitious and the financial climate ever more challenging to us all. We will need to rely on donations from individuals, companies and Trusts and Foundations to keep the work open and accessible to everyone.

We are pleased to announce that we have secured three years support from Arts Council England Catalyst Evolve and from Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

  ACE Lottery Logo-1
This means we can increase our full-time staff from two to three people. We are in the process of appointing a Development Manager, a new role to develop and deliver fundraising activities and we will soon be seeking to appoint a Development Assistant too.

Long term planning is critical to securing the future of the work and these new roles will help us raise money and develop partnerships in the UK and abroad, taking our industry leading work on diversity and participation to new places and new levels.

FOR EVERY £1 YOU GIVE, BIRMINGHAM OPERA COMPANY COULD GET £2.25!

Please consider supporting us in a new or increased way or asking someone else to help. You know the work.

In the last couple of years we've secured the support of over twenty Trusts and Foundations, crowdfunder backers and donations from people who give regularly by Standing Order or Direct Debit.

There are a multitude of ways you can help.

You could give a one-off or regular donation, organise a sponsored run or event, or you could ask a friend or your employer if they would consider sponsoring the productions, the new commission or participation work.

Through Arts Council England Catalyst Evolve, for every £1 you give, we can draw down a matching £1. So that's double your money. And where Gift Aid applies the government add a further 25% to the original pound. So, potentially every £1 from you means £2.25 to us AND you may be able to claim your own rebate on tax from your giving.

Please check out our HELP! page for more information on how you can support our work.
