MICHAEL TIPPETT'S "THE ICE BREAK"

Birmingham Opera Company are  mounting MIchael Tippett's masterpiece The Ice Break in April 2015, directed by Graham Vick. Leading up to our performances we have been out and about breaking the ice across Birmingham. Here's a sample of what we got up to in the last week......

Richard Willacy and volunteer performer, Eugene Thomas were invited to New Style Radio to talk about Michael Tippett's 'The Ice Break' and his experiences at Birmingham Opera Company.

Eugene - @BirminghamOpera gets you out of your comfort zone... Breaks so many barriers within yourself. ! #Breakingtheice

We are delivering in  ALL TEN DISTRICTS of BIRMINGHAM:  Singers Byron Jackson and Przemyslaw Baranek and facilitators Richard Willacy and Chloe Lund have been all over the city. We met up with young people at Bournville College, The Lighthouse in Aston, Fairbridge Centre in Digbeth, The Factory in Northfield and St Basil's in Small Heath and Yardley Wood Library for active sessions in singing, acting and performance.

With students at Brasshouse Language Centre, and Polish Expats Association at Centrala art gallery, we tried out singing opera as a fun and creative way to learn English and to talk about the issues of being new to a country. ...And we brought in our energetic chorus master, Jon Laird to deliver two exciting open taster sessions at The Drum and The Fusion Centre (South & City College) to experiment with our brand new method of learning opera - no scores allowed!
